This concept is not new, although different coffee blends are trending. According to some sources, mushrooms were a substitute for coffee in Finland during World War II when there were no coffee beans. Not to mention that mushrooms have always been used in Asian countries for culinary and medicinal purposes (especially in Chinese medicine).
When we talk about coffee with mushrooms, it should be said that it is a mixture of ground mushrooms and coffee beans.
How is it made?
To make coffee from mushrooms, the mushrooms are extracted and processed into an organic powder that does not contain any other additives. Through a double extraction process, the mushrooms are then dehydrated, ground into a fine powder and mixed into ground coffee beans. This is usually done in a ratio of 1: 1.
Caffeine is a substance that occurs naturally in some foods such as coffee beans, cocoa beans, and tea leaves, but is also synthetically added to other foods and beverages.
As mentioned earlier, the amount of powdered mushrooms is usually combined with an equal amount of ground coffee beans. Since mushroom powder does not contain caffeine, it reduces the caffeine content in the end product by half compared to normal coffee.
Such products have not yet been adequately researched and tested, so it is unclear whether there are positive or negative health effects from mixing mushrooms and coffee beans. It’s safe to say that while medicinal mushrooms and coffee have some proven benefits in their own right, there are plenty of untested health claims about the benefits of mushroom coffee.
While there is promising evidence, more research is needed to verify these health effects.
While mushroom coffee can be an exciting thing to try, there are a few downsides to be aware of. The main disadvantage is that there is currently a lack of studies on the health effects of such drinks on humans.
In addition, coffee with mushrooms is expensive. It often costs twice the price of regular coffee.
While this drink is safe for most people, it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor about it, especially if you are on medication or have any previous health problems.
